Corpus Christi often referred to as "The Sparkling City by the Sea," is a coastal city located in the state of Texas. It is part of the region known as South Texas. The translation of the city's name is Body of Christ, given to the settlement by the Spanish, in honor of the Blessed Sacrament (Eucharist).
The city is a very attractive tourist destination. Indeed Corpus Christi is located next to Padre Island. Padre Island National Seashore, encompassing 130,434 acres, is the longest remaining undeveloped stretch of barrier island in the world, and offers a wide variety of flora and fauna as well as recreation. Corpus Christi is also a large hub for daytrips to the world-famous King Ranch and Mexico. Besides the area is the location in the U.S. which has the most sunny days per year. In Corpus Christi there is in average over 255 days of vacation sunshine a year for an average temperature of 71.2 degrees.
According to the 2000 U.S. Census, the city had a population of 277,454 people making it the eighth-largest city in the state. But the city has recently expanded on the costal part of the area because of the increasing number of new residents. The real estate market for vacation or secondary homes has literally exploded. An enviable community added to a well-respected education system has given many incentives to new residents to make the decision of moving to Corpus Christi. Despite the growing house market you can find beachfront condos or single family homes at an affordable price. Whether you were already a visitor or someone looking for the best opportunity for your new home, you might consider the Texas costal city.
